In 2000 we decided to take a two prong attack to our siege craft. We
simultaneously started building both the gigantic Mista Ballista, and
a centripetal human powered machine. The centripetal machine was used
in the 2000 punkin chunk and the ballista will be our long term
machine.
The Pumpkin Putter is our centripetal competition machine. It was
built from the remains of Juggernaut 2
with some extra beef added.
All the parts are laid out prior to construction.
The frame goes up.
Here is the main fulcrum. 3ft of structural 1.5'' pipe, with a 1.5''
plumbing pipe over it, and a 6 way connector, all welded together.
Roger is bolting it to the top of the machine.
View from above as Kevin lofts one of our arms into the 6 way connector.
Kevin is enlightened as Dave tests the stays on the arm, and Roger
works on the bike.
The bicycle drive system to a ground-level jack-shaft.
The trigger mechanism. Cheap pair of vice-grips welded onto the arm.
View looking down from the fulcrum chain-ring (gear) down the
chain where Roger and Kevin are working on the bicycle system.
The strange gray-white thing (center, right) is the tip of the ladder
I'm standing on.
Dave powers up the system while Roger inspects the vertical chain.
Roger powers up the completed system with no projectiles loaded.
Roger powers up with a 1 gallon jug loaded, and counter weight loaded.
View from far away.
Up close with the pumpkin release mechanism. (Holding a milk jug.)
The bicycle system again.
The running system fully loaded. It threw about 90 ft.
