The Ludlow Vermont Zucchini festival has been sponsoring a
'Zukapult' contest since 2004.
After a hiatus in 2007, it is back again for 2008, so naturally we brought out our two medium sized
torsion machines for our third try throwing Zucchini.
Team Ba-Zucc-ka came in first, for greatest total distance thrown. They've been coming in first for greatest total distance for the past two contests. This year their machine's continued consistency brought them first place.

Caldwell Banker team had a hairspray cannon.
You may wonder, does it qualify for Zukapult rules?
This year, there were no machine rules that I knew of.
Since the Caldwell Banker team was also the event sponsor, then clearly, they qualify.
The hair spray cannon works great on potatoes, but had a harder time with the slimy and heavier zucchini.
Even so, they had the longest shot of the day, and second place for total distance. Their results per shot were

Our Hatra Ballista Jr was back, this time throwing Zucchini. Here is our machine, cocked, and ready to fire.
I had spent the previous weekend testing with zucchini, with little success.
At this contest, I also had very little success until our very last shot, where I found a
zucchini segment that was almost pumpkin shaped.
That gave us our longest measured shot for the Hatra so far.
We came in third for total distance, but second for longest shot.

Onager Jr also came. As I was busy setting up two machines, I was unable to get Onager Jr appropriately tightened up for it's first shot, so it suffered on it's first shot. Otherwise, it was consistent with previous years. Overall, the little Onager came in last, but since it was in the Kids division, it was also first. Huzzah!
