Zukapult 2009

The Ludlow Vermont Zucchini festival has been sponsoring a 'Zukapult' contest since 2004. We brought out our medium sized torsion Hatra Ballista Jr. machine out for our fourth try throwing Zucchini.
Our best shot of the day went a bit over 200 ft. We had a lot of trouble with the zucchini getting stuck in the pouch during the throw. We also had trouble with our winch, which started stalling randomly during pullback. Combined distance over three shots: 478 ft

Hatra Ballista showed up at the Zukapult contest. Our small onager was currently in pieces at this time after
several key parts broke at the Museum demonstration last year.
This trebuchet, which is similar to Merlin at the Punkin Chunk, had deployment issues and was shooting backward.
To compensate, they turned the machine around to face backward.
This air cannon was powered off of scuba tanks, and the zucchini really flew! As a side effect, they got 1st place.

Gary has taken over the Zukapult duties, and he was also in charge of measuring distances. He went on many a long walk out
to the back of the field for the air cannon.
