When Adam (of team Chucky) stands up on stage and says "TORSION RULES", he means it. Chucky II of the torsion class out threw all other catapults on the field with an amazing throw of over 2000 feet. Wow!

First Place - Chucky II

Adam stands next to the new torsion class champ, Chucky II with his "I Love Trebuchets... For Breakfast" T-shirt.

How'd they do it? This pictures says it all.

Step 1: Extend arm out with extruded aluminum.
Step 2: Lengthen rope bundle for extended pull with deeper scutulas.
Step 3: Pull arm down past horizontal.
Step 4: Extra hard white pumpkins
Step 5: Apply alcohol to operators.

How low can she go?

Chunky II chopped away part of the rear frame to allow the arm to rotate down even farther than in previous years.

How do you make a rope bundle longer on a pre-existing onager?

Well, this is one solution. This team removes all that extra wood to get the machine street legal, and has to put those things back on and re-wind their bundle after driving anywhere.

Second Place - Onager

Is it possible to go to a chunk anywhere east of the Mississippi without Bob Carbo and Onager being there? Of course it isn't. Bob improved the frame of Onager so it wouldn't collapse in on itself. Good idea. The master is learning from the student.

And Bob, you've got too much stuff in your Pit. I somehow couldn't get a clean picture of Onager all weekend!

On the first day of the competition, Bob broke his Phat Ash, sending a wooden stump about 20 feet out into the field. Ouch!

Not only did Onager win 2nd place at the Chunk, Bob got Married too! Congratulations!

And what is that fuzzy blob in the upper right doing in all my pictures? Arg!

Third Place - Mista Ballista

Ahh, there he is. Mista Ballista with those spiff new arms. Hoo-ya.

See Mista Ballista's PC 2006 page for more about this machine.

Romans Revenge

Roman's Revenge was back... a little less Roman, and a lot more Revenge.

They found a new heavy-duty trailer, and welded their onager into it. This is practically a whole new machine and it caused no-end of trouble as it pied all their competition shots.

Chucky I

Chucky I returned, and competed with throws around 200 feet. Amazing for such a small onager!

Chucky I broke an upright during the free-fire on Saturday, and they rebuilt the machine so they could compete again on Sunday.

Wild Thing

New competitor Wild Thing arrived. With perhaps 4 inches of rope, they threw over 100 feet.

Various bureaucratic problems prevented them from competing on any day but Saturday. Tough call.

I recommend reading the chunkin instructions to avoid such mishaps in the future.

World Championship Chunk 2006 The 2006 World Championship Punkin Chunk was a great year for both Mista Ballista, and the entire Torsion Class. Records were broken (Congrat's Marc and the Chucky team) and Mr. B broke all team records for distance!
World Championship Chunk 2006 - Mista Ballista Mista Ballista left it's mark on the Chunkin field with two throws over 600 feet, but getting there wasn't easy. Our first two days were plagued with bundle winding problems. On the bright side, we made it through the year without breaking the arms, or any other major throwing component of the machine. Huzzah!
