World Championship Chunk 2006 - Torsion

When Adam (of team Chucky) stands up on stage and says "TORSION RULES", he means it. Chucky II of the torsion class out threw all other catapults on the field with an amazing throw of over 2000 feet. Wow!
Adam stands next to the new torsion class champ, Chucky II with his "I Love Trebuchets... For Breakfast" T-shirt.
Step 1: Extend arm out with extruded aluminum.
Chunky II chopped away part of the rear frame to allow the arm to rotate down even farther than in previous years.
How do you make a rope bundle longer on a pre-existing onager? Well, this is one solution. This team removes all that extra wood to get the machine street legal, and has to put those things back on and re-wind their bundle after driving anywhere.
Is it possible to go to a chunk anywhere east of the Mississippi without Bob Carbo and Onager being there? Of course it isn't. Bob improved the frame of Onager so it wouldn't collapse in on itself. Good idea. The master is learning from the student. And Bob, you've got too much stuff in your Pit. I somehow couldn't get a clean picture of Onager all weekend!
Not only did Onager win 2nd place at the Chunk, Bob got Married too! Congratulations! And what is that fuzzy blob in the upper right doing in all my pictures? Arg!

They found a new heavy-duty trailer, and welded their onager into it. This is practically a whole new machine and it caused no-end of trouble as it pied all their competition shots.

Chucky I broke an upright during the free-fire on Saturday, and they rebuilt the machine so they could compete again on Sunday.
New competitor Wild Thing arrived. With perhaps 4 inches of rope, they threw over 100 feet. Various bureaucratic problems prevented them from competing on any day but Saturday. Tough call.
I recommend reading the chunkin instructions to avoid such mishaps in the future.
